MVM Women's Ministry in Yangon
written by Kimberley Barrera
I was privileged to speak to four women’s groups, two of which I did a mini course on Search for Significance and two that I spoke on Beth Moore's new study, When Godly People Do UnGodly Things. It became apparent after a few days listening to Marta and James talk about the problems and issues they face every day in ministry that both of these studies are very much needed there. We saw that MVM is under spiritual attack, but when you think about it, the enemy is working overtime all over the world to try to destroy God's Church, and anyone who is willing to put their lives on the line for the great commission.
I spoke to one group of women where many were new Christians. They could not even read but they carried around a used Bible that was given to them at their baptism. We worked together to pair them up with older Christian women that could help them and hopefully mentor them. They didn’t want anyone to know that they could not read. I am hoping that Search for Significance will help these wonderful women see that they are all precious in God's eyes and they do not need to be concerned about what people think of them. There have been so many terrible things that these women have been through. One underlining theme I was coming across was that they still feel shame, guilt and unforgiven for past things that happened to them, or that they did, even though they have accepted Christ. We all can struggle with these feelings at times in our lives. As I taught Search for Significance I emphasized that this kind of guilt is use by the enemy to keep them from fulfilling God's purpose in their lives. I explained that the enemy will continue to use this against them and they will affect others they come in contact with. There were a lot of tears in these meetings when revelations came upon them that feeling guilty isn't from God. They mistakenly thought this guilt was from God to humble them and that it should be accepted. I saw them beginning to realize this false guilt was actually being used by the enemy to instead ruin their decision making abilities and their testimony.
These meetings were so precious to me. I am praying that God wants me to return to continue the studies and that we get permission to have Search for Significance and Beth Moore's study, When Godly People Do UnGodly Things translated into Burmese.
Pray with us that we raise the funds for the translations and that we get permission. This will make a great impact on evangelism in Myanmar.
